Energy Codes Impact Office Furniture

This Energy Standard now effects modular furniture:

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)  publishes a well recognized series of standards and guidelines relating to HVAC systems and issues. These standards are often referenced in building codes, and are used by engineers, contractors, architects, and government agencies.

ASHRAE Incorporated Into 2011 Stimulus Law

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Section 410

  • All states will be adopting the "latest standard" as per the requirements of the 2011 stimulus package.
  • States have eight years to get into full compliance and ARRA set requirements for both residential and commercial buildings.

Section 410 (a) (2) The State, or the applicable units of local government that have authority to adopt building codes, will implement the following: (A) A building energy code (or codes) for residential buildings that meets or exceeds the most recently published International Energy Conservation Code, or achieves equivalent or greater energy savings. (B) A building energy code (or codes) for commercial buildings throughout the State that meets or exceeds the ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007, or achieves equivalent or greater energy savings.
