GROUP DEKKO ANNOUNCES INDIANA INTERN OF THE YEAR WINNER
Local student intern Salvador Espinoza earns 2015 Intern of the Year at Impact Awards
Garrett, IN – Group Dekko is pleased to announce that student intern, Salvador Espinoza, was awarded the 2015 High School Intern of the Year at the IndianaIntern.net Impact Awards, held in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 3, 2016.
Salvador started as an intern in Group Dekko’s Explore program in 2013, while he was a student at East Noble High School in Kendallville, IN. He has interned at Group Dekko each year since that time, completing a second year in the Explore program in 2014, serving as an Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education student during his senior year of high school, and continuing on the summer after his high school graduation as the marketing and human resources intern in 2015. Described as a “serial intern” at the awards ceremony, Salvador is currently attending IPFW (Indiana – Purdue University) in Fort Wayne, IN and interns part time with Group Dekko in the marketing department.
According to Theresa Peterson, Human Resources Director for Group Dekko, Salvador “has become an invaluable member of the Dekko team and exemplifies the success of the high school and college internship programs here”. Group Dekko acknowledges East Noble High School as well as Rick Sherck, Executive Director of the Noble County Economic Development Corporation, as having a tremendous impact on the success of the award winning Explore program where Salvador began his internship experience.
Group Dekko, a privately-held manufacturing company headquartered in Garrett, Indiana, specializes in electrical components and assemblies, with product lines including power delivery and harness components for the workspace, architectural lighting, transportation, medical, and appliance industries. Located in Northeast Indiana since 1952, the company has approximately 1,200 associates across seven facilities in three states and Mexico.
The Indiana INTERNnet IMPACT Awards is an annual celebration of internship excellence and cultivation of local talent, sponsored by Sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College. The nominations are submitted by the employers and winners are chosen by a group of impartial judges.
